The aspect between the signs
A trine joins two signs of the same element in different modalities. It is the classical aspect of ease: a shared temperament with a different pace of acting on it.
Elements and modalities
Two water signs share both qualities, cold and moist. Feeling runs deep and moods carry from one to the other.
One sign holds and the other adjusts: a fixed sign sustains, a mutable sign adapts.
The rulers
One ruler is a personal planet and the other a social planet, Jupiter or Saturn. The first deals in daily manner, the second in long horizons: belief, duty and limits.
Mars stands for: drive, anger, initiative, courage. Jupiter stands for: expansion, meaning, confidence, excess.
Modern astrology also assigns Pluto to Scorpio; Neptune to Pisces. The reading here uses the traditional rulers; the modern ones are in the table.
The two signs together
Scorpio tends to bring depth: loyalty, focus and willingness to stay with what is difficult. It tends to need trust that is shown rather than asked for, and privacy that is respected.
Pisces tends to bring sympathy: imagination, intuition and a gentle ear. It tends to need gentleness, and clear boundaries it does not have to enforce alone.
Two water signs who read each other well. Depth and loyalty come easily; boundaries are what may need stating.
What tends to come easily
- A shared way of feeling and reacting, with little to translate.
- Understanding is often intuitive.
- Stability from one side and room to adapt from the other.
- Daily manner and long-term purpose can support each other.
What tends to cost something
- Comfort can slide into complacency, since nothing demands change.
- Moods amplify, and nobody stands outside them.
- The one who adjusts can run out of room, and the one who holds can mistake flexibility for lack of commitment.
- What one does lightly the other may take as a matter of principle.
What two Sun signs cannot say
Two Sun signs are a small part of two charts. The Moon, Venus, Mars, the rising sign and the houses of each person shape how a relationship goes, and so do age, circumstance and choice.
The aspect here is counted between signs, not between degrees. Two people born at the start and at the end of the same sign stand differently from two born at the same degree, and this page cannot tell which applies.
To compare two actual people, the synastry tool takes both birth dates and shows the aspects between the planets.
